Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Commercial Lawyer to join their dynamic Legal Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of commercial contracts and procurement matters, supporting the council in its day-to-day operations and strategic objectives.
In addition, there may be scope to work on Major Regeneration Projects, contributing to the transformation of the local community through the development of local housing schemes. This project aims to revitalize the housing landscape within Sandwell, offering residents improved living conditions and sustainable communities.

Responsibilities:
-
Lead on legal aspects of regeneration projects, with a focus on commercial and procurement matters

Advise on complex legal issues, ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations, and policies

Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial contracts, including construction agreements, development agreements, joint venture agreements, and procurement contracts

Advise on public procurement regulations, tendering processes, and contract management
-
Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and promote effective decision-making
-
Liaise with external legal counsel and manage relationships with key stakeholders
Essential Requirements:

Qualified solicitor or barrister with a minimum of 5 years' PQE

Extensive experience in providing legal advice relating to commercial law and procurement
-
Strong knowledge of UK commercial law, including contract law, public procurement regulations

Experience in handling commercial negotiations and drafting and reviewing commercial contracts
