Avis Budget Group and Alphabet's self-driving startup Waymo have entered into a strategic partnership to launch a fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Dallas.
The car-rental company said Tuesday that it will serve as Waymo's fleet operations partner and provide end-to-end services including maintenance, vehicle readiness and depot operations. Waymo will provide its ride-hailing service via its app and be responsible for the performance of its Waymo Driver autonomous-driving technology.
Initial testing is already under way in Dallas. A public launch is slated for 2026, Avis said.
"Together, we're committed to making scaled autonomous mobility a reality for the people of Dallas, with plans to expand to additional cities in the near future," Avis Chief Executive Brian Choi said.
Avis shares were up 3.5% at $213.17 ahead of the opening bell.
