Job Description

Admissions unit 1 is based within phase 3 of Victoria Hospital. This department consists of 37 inpatient beds. Admissions unit one receives acute medical patients who require assessment from G.P.s, A&E and clinics. AU1 currently is functioning as a hybrid ward with a red zone (covid) and an amber zone. This is a temporary change to allow us to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic

We are looking for a Nursing Assistant to join our new team to assist the nursing staff in maintaining a high standard of care and an organised, clean environment, supporting patient flow through the department and onto other clinical areas. We need your commitment to ensure the patient journey is a positive experience.
You must have an interest in acute medicine, preferably with some experience or a good knowledge base of medical conditions and be willing to carry out venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring and base line monitoring; training for this can be supported when facilities are available.

You must have good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to plan and prioritise workloads in this busy and demanding unit. You must be a team player who can be flexible with all shift patterns to meet the needs of the service. Having IT skills is also advantageous.
Knowledge of infection control precautions and health and safety would also be positive attributes.

Although the department is a very busy working environment it provides an excellent opportunity for learning new skills and the ability to develop in the role.

This post has various hours available; hours include day/night rotation and weekend working.

If successful in your application, you will be offered the opportunity to undertake an SVQ2 or SVQ3 (dependent on band) in Health and Social Care, approximately 9 months after taking up post. It is expected that you complete this qualification, which will be fully funded by NHS Fife. Your Line Manager will provide you with more information once you are in post

For informal enquiries contact please contact Elaine Lawson or Harly Jane McLennan, Senior Charge Nurse on 01592 643355 ext 29960.

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.

NHS Fife is legally obliged to ensure all its employees are legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom. If you are not a United Kingdom (UK) or Irish National, you are required to confirm your right to work in your application.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
