JOB DESCRIPTION: Recovery Room (Internal Exclusion) Manager
RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Principal – Behaviour
CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent / Term Time Only + plus training days, plus 1 extra week
WORKING PATTERN: 37 hrs per week, Mon-Fri
JOB SUMMARY:
To manage all aspects of the recovery room effectively and positively ensuring the students who are placed in there, work in silence, behave well and make good personal progress.
Key Responsibilities:
This list is not meant to provide a narrow definition of specific responsibilities but to serve as guidance and should be seen as enabling rather than restrictive.
- Establish study materials relevant to Key Stages (3, and 4) that would support any student in the Academy.
- Reinforce the Academies behaviour policy and standards
- Communicate to all staff students that are in Recovery Room .
- Develop, in collaboration with other colleagues/experts, relevant support materials/activities to address specific student-based issues e.g., behaviour improvement work or self-esteem improvement.
- Ensure all RR administration is prepared and organised and that all relevant staff are aware of procedures. Ensure a Personal Tutor Action Plan is set up on entry to RR (if not already) and that report cards/mechanisms are robust and followed up whilst the student is in the RR.
- Remind staff, if needed, to send work for students. Collect if necessary and maintain a log of staff who fail to provide work when requested. This to be shared with the Vice Principal - Pastoral for follow up
- Work positively with students, their parents, and staff, maintaining a firm but fair ethos of this provision, and the reason it exists.
- Exhibit/demonstrate “presence” that is recognised by students, and adults, that allow you to ensure silent working when required and other styles of interacting when necessary.
- Use your experience and expertise in shaping students “new” behaviour for learning, using all data /information, staff and other materials.
- Contribute towards strategic planning for Inclusion in the Academy with specific reference to the RR and similar Behaviour “recovery” methods.
- To work with individuals and small groups of students to support and intervene with their learning, behaviour, and social and emotional development either in the RR, in the classroom or other school context in order to enable students to re-engage.
- Develop and deliver a mentoring system for students that display behavioural needs (students that have 3 or more Internal exclusions for that Academic year). The impact will be measurable.
- To respond to on call incidents as required, supporting school investigations as appropriate.
- Collect students for detentions and similar sanctions.
- Carry out any other task related to school matters as directed by the Senior leadership Team

Qualifications Essential Desirable
- Excellent numeracy and literacy skills including qualifications equivalent to Level 2 in English and Maths
- Degree or high-level equivalent (non-subject specific) (desirable)
- A qualification relating to supervising/and/or directing pupil activity (desirable)
- Has attended a range of relevant specialist training courses to develop own knowledge of issues affecting young people and best practice in the management of these issues
Practical Skills & Experience Essential Desirable
- Experience of working within a school environment
- Has a good understanding of child protection legislation
- Previous experience of implementing new initiatives
- Previous experience of working within an environment dealing with a range of issues affecting young people
- Ability to communicate with young people, both individually and in a group setting
- Ability to communicate with young people to address the difficulties they are experiencing within school that affect their ability/willingness to learn
- Able to gather information and produce reports
- Confident basic user of ICT
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
