An opportunity has arisen for a Nursing Associate to join our team in the Neonatal Unit at Watford General Hospital. The Woodland Neonatal Unit is a Level 2 unit (LNU) within the East of England network caring for sick term babies and those born after 27 weeks gestation. In addition, we manage a 6 bedded Transitional Care Unit in postnatal ward, caring for mothers and small babies together.

The postholder will be working in both neonatal and transitional care unit to provide wholistic family centred care for Special Care infants under the supervision of the nurse in charge, actively support breastfeeding initiatives and to educate, support and encourage parents to care for their babies and facilitate timely discharge. The successful applicant will be expected to be flexible in the area they work on workdays, nights and weekends.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, as well be a team player who is able to work within a busy environment, working with the team to provide the best care for the patients and their families.

You will be well supported to develop in your role by our practice development nurse and have the opportunities to develop your neonatal skills as well as further education and training.

If you are an enthusiastic and highly motivated who wants to deliver high quality family centred care and passionate in delivering excellent standards of nursing practice this opportunity is for you.

The Neonatal Unit provides care for premature babies and/or sick newborn babies that require admission to the unit. The Transitional Care Unit provides care for a wide range of newborn babies who are medically stable and predominantly well but require additional observation, treatment and support; more than that which is usually provided within the usual post-natal care pathway.

Nursing Associates are equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as a Nursing Associate, and according to their professional code of conduct (NMC, 2018).

The role of the Nursing Associate on both the Neonatal Unit and the Transitional Care Unit will be to work independently under the leadership of Registered Nurses, working within the sphere of nursing and care and within all aspects of the nursing process.

The nursing associate will be working in both neonatal and transitional care unit to provide wholistic family centred care for Special Care infants under supervision of Nurse Team Manager or nurse in charge, actively support breastfeeding initiatives and to educate, support and encourage parents to care for their babies and facilitate timely discharge.
