Pharmacy Assistant (Distribution)

Job Description

To provide stock medicines and other pharmacy-supplied items to wards and departments.

To receive goods delivered to the pharmacy department, including bulk IV fluids and to replenish stocks of medicines and other items held in distribution and in the automated dispensing system.

To work as part of the Pharmacy Distribution Team.

The post holder will predominantly be part of the distribution team however there will be an element of flexible working within the goods inward section contributing towards delivering a comprehensive pharmacy service to the acute hospital wards, other patient settings, and the community hospitals.

• To provide, as required, a bulk IV fluids ‘top-up’ service to designated wards and departments. Check stock levels against an agreed list and ensure efficient delivery of the required stock
• Maintain as required, the main IV fluids store, ensuring effective stock control and ordering stock where necessary
• Liaise with purchasing staff about the availability of out-of-stock medicines / pharmaceutical sundries to ensure the completion of outstanding orders
• Monitor drug storage conditions e.g. refrigerator temperatures to maintain efficacy and compliance with product requirements and report any discrepancies
• Answer routine queries and resolve straightforward problems from wards / specialties e.g. availability of stock; discrepancies with orders
