Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced, ambitious Qualified Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) to support the ongoing growth of the new and innovative ACCP programme. This is an opportunity to help shape the future of Critical Care clinical practice and training, working within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team at one of the country’s foremost Trusts and leading Universities.

Essential Criteria

FICM Membership status

Professional qualification - NMC/HCPC Registration

Mentorship qualification or equivalent

Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Advanced Life support qualification

Significant experience mentorship/supervision of junior staff

Experience of audit/service improvement

Desirable Criteria

MSc Advanced Critical Care Practice or equivalent

Airway Optional skills framework

Transfer Optional skills framework

FUSICs – Lung, heart & Vascular

Our critical care service encompasses 4 units split across 3 sites:

Across our units we provide support direct admission from our busy Emergency Department, complex external referrals and our elective and emergency surgical pathways.

The units have consultant cover 24/7, onsite day times Monday to Sunday. Alongside fellowship work there is also the opportunity to be involved with a variety of QI projects, teaching and service development.

Our service has specialist interest in long term weaning, psychology of critical illness, acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis, infection control, peri-operative medicine & emergency medicine, and has expertise in areas such as echocardiography, diagnostic ultrasound, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, experimental, translational and health services research. Successful candidates will be supported to seek experience in these areas.

The successful candidate will support the ongoing design and development of an innovative clinical ACCP service. Mentoring trainee ACCPs and working with colleagues to embed and grow ACCP training within the Trust and beyond. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate evidence of high-level education project involvement, a commitment to working across traditional critical care boundaries and should be an experienced clinical practitioner and leader with formal training in experiential learning and mentorship.

It is anticipated that the post holder will work 80% clinically complimenting the junior doctor roster. This clinical role includes long days, nights, and weekends. There is a 20% non-clinical commitment where they will be supported to develop their own professional clinical portfolio and leadership skills.

Candidates must hold FICM ACCP Membership; and desirably have completed the full MSc in Advanced Critical Care Practice.
