Job description

Working as part of DA&E’s international data exchange team you will provide leadership on issues relating to the acquisition and exchange of a wide variety of data which is automatically exchanged with international tax jurisdictions.

It is an exciting time to join the team as offshore exchanges are increasing both in volumes and complexity of information and this is a specialist post. The jobholder must be flexible, adapting to changing departmental requirements and willing to work in different ways to meet business needs. Develop a full understanding of the offshore reporting and data exchanges to be able to provide technical expertise to a wide variety of high-profile customers. Challenge the quality of data provided to HMRC by UK financial institutions and other data providers and assess levels of compliance to meet the legislation via phone, email, and face to face meetings. Where appropriate charge penalties for failures.


Working collaboratively with a wide variety of key stakeholders inside and outside HMRC. Travel to attend meetings could arise including some held overseas with overnight stays.


Training will be provided to develop a full understanding of the offshore reporting and data exchanges to be able to provide technical expertise to a wide variety of high-profile customers.

Person specification

Key responsibilities:

  • Working with sensitive data meeting strict data security requirements
  • Data conversion using a variety of methods, overcoming challenges by developing new techniques.
  • Working with different data file types (e.g. XML, Excel & CSV)
  • Using analytical skills, working with others to share ideas and improve processes
  • Reporting findings from different data files and maintaining accurate statistics
  • Responsibility for importing and exporting data files to secure encryption standards including standalone PC’s
  • Communicating with internal customers resolving issues
  • Attending meetings with projects, policy and IT partners developing new processes, sharing ideas, and creating new ways of working.
  • Supporting team members to promote standard operating procedures but retaining the ability to work flexibly where necessary

Knowledge and experience of:


  • Experience of using Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Experience of using Visual Basic for Applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of using Excel.
