Job Description
Job Brief: The Yard & Warehouse Operative is responsible for receiving, storing, picking and dispatching products, ensuring that there are no missing or damaged items. They assist in the unloading and uploading of delivery vehicles along with preparing and completing warehouse and yard orders for delivery or collection according to a schedule.

Day to day duties:
Yard and Warehouse Area Duties, to include but not limited to:
- Having a clear understanding of the company’s policies and vision and how the Warehouse, Yard and Retail Showroom Area all contribute to these.
- Ensuring adequate handling of all materials and products within the Warehouse, Yard and Retail Showroom Area and that they are all stored appropriately in order to minimise any damage or unnecessary wear and tear.
- Maintaining a neat and tidy Warehouse, Yard and Showroom Area at all times.
- Maintaining standards of health and safety, hygiene and security within the Warehouse, Yard and Retail Showroom area and adhering to all warehousing, handling and dispatch legislations.
Stock Management Duties, to include but not limited to:
- Coordinating with the sales team directly or via the Yard and Warehouse Manager, and having all the necessary paperwork ready for the receipt of goods, furthermore ensuring that the sales team and accounts department are informed should any goods not be received or be damaged.
- Receiving, storing, assembling (if required) and dispatching goods.
- Labelling, packaging (if necessary) and storing safely and efficiently all stock.
- Ensuring receipt of artificial grass is batched and recorded accurately prior to storing in the Warehouse/ Yard area.
- Collecting pick lists regularly from the sales team, ensuring orders are picked and fulfilled as early as possible before scheduled delivery time and notifying the sales team as early as possible of any discrepancies in stock levels.
- Assisting in quarterly and annual stock takes and helping maintain an up-to-date inventory of yard and warehouse supplies.
- Assisting in routine and ad-hoc stock checks and reporting to the Yard and Warehouse Manager accordingly.
- Liaising with the Yard and Warehouse Manager in regards to any missing/ surplus or damaged stock identified in any stock take or check.
- Managing returns to ensure any returned stock is accounted for and in good condition (as sold), including informing the sales team so that they can issue credit notes or refunds accordingly.
- Creating collection and quotation notes, ensuring they are completed and signed for every order and passed onto the Yard and Warehouse Manager.
- Preparing and ensuring product samples are available and kept restocked for the sales team.
Customer Service, Team Work and dealing with Stakeholders:
- Liaising with customers and transport companies as and when required, maintaining an optimal level of customer service and assisting to resolve all customer issues.
- Liaising and coordinating order and delivery methods with driver/s
- Liaising with private landscapers and fitters, ensuring all relevant paperwork is kept up to date and stock accounted for.
- Attending monthly staff meetings.
- Receiving feedback and ensuring the quality of services provided is of good standard at all times.
- Coordinating with other departments and investigating accidents and identifying root cause or damage.
- Working as part of a departmental and wider company team to ensure productivity targets, company goals and objectives are met.
Equipment and Company Vehicle Duties:
- Using mechanical handling equipment efficiently.
- Maintaining standards of health and safety, hygiene and security when handling mechanical equipment and company vehicles.
- Carrying out planned maintenance of vehicles, machinery and equipment, ensuring daily checks and ad-hoc maintenance checks are carried out.
- Leasing equipment (and if need be vehicles) to individuals/ companies, ensuring all equipment and vehicles are returned in good condition and keeping accurate records of hires.
- Loading and unloading delivery vehicles, by hand or with a forklift truck.
- Operating a forklift truck to move and rearrange stock and to ensure products are stored safely
- Ensuring Fork Lift has sufficient diesel at all times.
- Ensuring maximum weight capacities are adhered to at all time

- Identifying personal training needs by evaluating own strengths and weaknesses and continuously building on product knowledge and up-skilling.
- Regularly seeking to improve professional skills and personal product and material knowledge.
