We are recruiting for an Assistant Support Worker to join our Croydon Reach outreach team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a service working towards reducing rough sleeping in Croydon. Croydon Reach supports both new and more complex rough sleepers to move away from the streets and access and sustain accommodation. With the help of our experienced senior staff and management, you will be supported and trained to use your strong communication and creative problem-solving skills. You will receive regular supervision from experienced staff who will both guide your work and encourage and facilitate your personal development. Thames Reach welcomes applications from people with transferable skills.
The role will involve office and street-based work in Croydon. While some of your time will be spent working daytime shifts, Monday-Friday, the role includes some early morning and late-night outreach shifts. This could also include some weekend working.
A clean driving license is an essential requirement of this role.
As an Assistant Support Worker you will:
- Directly support clients, identifying activities that will assist in their journey towards recovery and away from life on the street
- Be a response to referrals, carrying out assessments with new rough sleepers met
- Work alongside other agencies including, the local authority, mental health services, drug and alcohol, and housing providers.
- Conducting regular outreach shifts
- Accurately recording work done
To succeed as the Assistant Support worker, you will:
- Have a commitment to providing a high standard of service.
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness to be part of rota that includes early and late shifts, including some weekend work
- Strong IT skills with the ability use Outlook, online recording systems, Excel, and Word, using a tablet and a smart phone.
- Honesty, reliability and a mature and thoughtful approach to equal opportunities and diversity in service provision
- The ability to learn and an enthusiasm for training and acquiring new skills.
