Job Description

ABOUT US

We are National Energy Action (NEA) – and our vision is to end fuel poverty; our work to improve and promote energy efficiency brings social, environmental, housing and employment benefits. We believe everyone should be able to afford to keep their homes warm and safe, however, low incomes, high energy bills and poor energy efficiency currently deny this to millions of households across the UK.

NEA’s teams are friendly, knowledgeable and are dedicated to what we do. We are proud of our expertise and proud of the service we deliver to our clients.

We offer colleagues a friendly, rewarding workplace and the chance to build a worthwhile career with a not-for-profit organisation that is proud to make a genuine difference to people’s lives each and every day.

THE ROLE

We have a fantastic opportunity for someone to join us in the position of Parliamentary and Public Affairs Officer to work on a full time basis, 37hours per week; alternatively we will consider part-time hours on a Job Share basis. Whilst it is intended that the post be based at NEA’s London office, all staff are currently working remotely on a temporary basis. Hybrid working opportunities can be discussed with the successful candidate.

Staff working in NEA’s Policy and Advocacy Team are knowledgeable and bring their expertise in engaging with various groups and stakeholders. You will provide the secretariat function for the All Party Parliamentary Group on Fuel Poverty and Energy Efficiency in Westminster and in the Welsh Senedd, including organising meetings and events, identifying new officers, members and commercial supporters.

Reporting into Head of Policy and Public Affairs, you will help maintain and build political momentum through the energy crisis so that ending fuel poverty is prioritised across the UK Parliament and devolved administrations.

You will monitor proceedings in the UK and devolved parliaments, including regular formal reporting to the leadership in the Policy and Advocacy Directorate.

The post sits within the Policy and Advocacy Directorate and is part of an active and caring team of professionals who work hard to raise awareness of the impacts of fuel poverty and develop solutions to make energy costs more affordable.

What you will need to succeed

You should be able to demonstrate an understanding of NEA’s mission to eradicate fuel poverty and for everyone to keep their homes warm and safe.

You will have demonstrable experience within a relevant third sector organisation, NGO, charity, lobby group, Parliament focussing on public affairs.

You will have a thorough understanding of parliamentary procedures and experience of engaging elected representatives, motivated by achieving impact and change.

Knowledge and experience of campaign planning and media engagement is desirable, although not essential.

All staff are currently working from home on a temporary basis, however this role can be a mixture of office/home working. Office locations will be discussed with candidates at interview. Post holders must be resident within the UK, and be able to provide their Right to Work in the UK.

The closing date for all applications is Thursday 9 February 2023 at 12:00 noon. Interviews will take place on 24 February 2023 – this will be in person or virtually. Details will be forwarded in advance.

Only shortlisted candidates will be advised of the interview date.

Please note CVs will notbe accepted as part of the application process. No agency or advertising enquiries please.
