Job Description

Job Introduction

BBC News NI is recruiting a journalist to join the team producing our TV News output. You will be expected to work on the production of daily output and help in planning material for future programmes.

The successful candidate will be required to write concise and accurate news stories that engage the audience. You must also have a keen interest in original journalism. You will also carry out research, record interviews, write scripts and prepare bulletins exercising editorial and legal judgement. On occasions you will be expected to report. This role involves being available to work across platforms

Main Responsibilities
  • You will be expected to prepare items for TV news including on occasion the preparation of bulletins and reporting.
  • You will be required to write scripts for TV news and construct running orders when required.
  • You will work on the development and gathering required for first class TV packages and lives.
  • You will be expected to make effective use of graphics.
  • You will be required to contribute ideas for coverage that matters to our audience.
Are you the right candidate?

To be successful in this role you should be able to evidence the following in your application:

Experience of the production methods used in TV news including high quality scripting, interviewing and production to tight deadlines

Experience of operating in a live TV gallery.

Able to use editorial judgement to bring in original stories and ideas that serve our audience.

Able to handle breaking news, pre-and post-production work including the use of a range of broadcast equipment.

Thorough knowledge of affairs of Northern Ireland, the wider UK, and the Republic of Ireland.

Knowledge of the law as it affects broadcast journalism.

Package Description

Band: C

Contract: 6 Months Fixed Term contract

Location: Belfast

You are eligible to apply for an internal role if you are either on a BBC Continuing (Permanent) contract, a BBC Fixed Term contract, a casual contract or freelance contract and you have worked continuously for 6 months.

Only internal staff are eligible to apply for the role on an attachment basis. You need to be on a continuing (permanent) or fixed-term contract.
