About the role
What will you be doing?
As part of the overall Network Operations and Customer experience function, you will perform customer installations along with break fix and maintenance work of our services. You will provide an exceptional customer experience throughout the installation process, where our customers will be connected to Upp’s network and begin their super-fast journey with us. As a Field Engineer Supervisor, as well performing customer installs and maintenance of our network infrastructure, you will also successfully build, manage and develop a team of field engineers.
So what does the role look like day-to-day?
Key responsibilities include…
- Resolving any on site issues throughout the installation stages
- Working closely with the Field Operations Manager to effectively manage and develop a team of Field Engineers
- Creating and maintaining good working relationships with your team and all other stakeholders involved in delivering key works and projects
- Take full responsibility for supervision & quality control of onsite works; including conducting on site visits and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety standards and quality of installations are being met.
- Working closely with our project teams and supply chain, to ensure technical requirements are understood and met
- Subject expert in Health and Safety to champion best practice across the engineering team
- Ensure that all work activities comply with environmental regulations and standards.
- Alongside our Principal Field Technician, conduct regular checks of plant and tools, ensure they are safe to use and where applicable carry valid calibration certificates
- Capturing all issues daily and escalate where necessary
- Sponsor and support new ways of working which would improve delivery
- Meet agreed deadlines for delivery of project programme
- Ensure any deviations to site surveys are managed effectively and efficiently to prevent delays
- To ensure that any customer related issues are managed effectively through to resolution
Key Requirements
- Knowledge of installation standards, specifications and methods supporting Pole and Ducted infrastructure.
- Ability to perform site surveys and establish appropriate installation routes and methods.
- Experienced with field-based fault finding and repair techniques including remote diagnostics.
- Good working knowledge of customer CPE including interface elements such routers and optical interfaces.
- Good knowledge of fibre optic termination, installation and testing equipment.
- Excellent working knowledge of Health and Safety, including reviewing Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
- Experienced in conducting inspections/ audits in safety procedures, specification & legislative compliance, and performance.
- Knowledge in excavation and reinstatement methods and materials used.
- Knowledge of air blown fibre networks.
- Strong understanding of planning packs, straight Line Diagrams (SLD) and Fibre allocation Sheets.
- OTDR experience EXFO, CMA NETTEST, ANRITSU, NOYES or similar
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel & Word.
- Proactive and driven approach.
- Excellent communication skills; including the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical colleagues.
- Full, clean Driving Licence & willingness to travel
- At least 3 years’ experience in a fibre installation/technical role
- Experience in a leadership role would be advantageous
