Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust, in association with First Light South West Ltd, have been awarded a 7-year contract to deliver Sexual Assault Referral Centre Services in Gloucestershire, Swindon & Wiltshire from October 2022. We now have a number of exciting opportunities for Doctors with significant and relevant experience in either Forensic Medicine or a specialism such as Sexual Health, Genitourinary Medicine, General Practice or Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Grade: Specialist Dr Grade
Salary: on call retainer (£200) + call out (£150)
Hours: 12-hour on call shifts + 2 hrs per week (0.05wte)
Location: Gloucestershire SARC - Hope House, Great Western Rd, Gloucester, GL1 3NN
AND Swindon & Wiltshire SARC – The Gables, Shrivenham Rd, Swindon, SN3 4RB
Post-holders will provide on-call availability, contributing to the day-time, night-time and weekend rotas (0700-1900 and 1900-0700) and will be available to attend both SARC’s (Hope House in Gloucester & Swindon & Wiltshire SARC in Swindon), and on occasion at other off-site locations within an agreed time of 120 minutes (or 180 minutes in exceptional circumstances). Additionally, post-holders will be employed on a 2 hour per week contract (0.05wte) to support administration time and attendance in monthly meetings/clinical supervision.
The successful post holders will be managed by the Clinical Director and will be given training and support in the role, and will work collaboratively with Crisis Worker’s and specially trained Police Officers to support the client.

Our SARC services are commissioned to provide forensic, medical and aftercare services to victims of rape and sexual assault who either self-refer or are referred via the police or other agencies. The main responsibility of the post-holder will be to carry out forensic medical examinations of adults and children aged 16-17 years old, in accordance with GHC, FFLM, and NMC guidelines, in a trauma informed manner which minimises further distress. The examination of victims of sexual assault and rape includes the assessment of risk of pregnancy, Sexually Transmitted Infections/Blood-borne Viruses and administering emergency contraception, HIV prophylaxis (PEPSE), Hepatitis B vaccination as required, in addition to Mental Health and suicide risk assessments and safeguarding.
