Support Workers – Guildford

1 x Permanent Night Support Worker – 1/2 x Bank Support Worker - 1 x Permanent Sunday Day Shift Support Worker

A fantastic opportunity to work directly with an engaging 6-year-old boy with complex needs in his family home. The family are looking for support workers who are caring, supportive and interactive.

Working as a support worker, you will play a key role in providing support on a 2-to-1 basis both at home and at school. You may also be expected to participate in therapies including hydrotherapy.

We have various positions available – see details below. Please indicate which position you are applying for when submitting your application.

Night Support Worker – Permanent (24 hours per week)

£16 per hour Monday - Friday Night, £18 per hour Weekend Nights

Tuesday and Friday Waking Nights

Waking Nights: 20:00 – 08:00

Bank Support Worker – (Flexible zero-hour contract)

£16 per hour Monday - Friday Days and Waking Nights, £18 per hour Weekend shifts

Sleep Nights – National Minimum Wage (21:00-05:00)

Day shifts: 08:00- 20:00 or 15:00 - 20:00

Weekend: 08:00 – 20:00

Waking Nights: 20:00 - 08:00

Sleep-in Nights: 20:00 - 08:00 (with sleep-in expected to be between 21:00-05:00).

Sunday Support Worker – Permanent (12 hours per week)

£18 per hour Weekend shifts

Sunday: 08:00 – 20:00

Combinations of these hours/roles are a possibility.

The Client

This is a 6-year-old boy with significant complex medical and care needs. He has cerebral palsy, dysphagia, epilepsy which results in regular seizures, a gastrostomy PEG for all nutrition, fluids, and medication. He is totally dependent on others and needs 2:1 care. He requires hoisting, uses a wheelchair, has chest physio and suctioning. He also uses communication devices including eye gaze. He lives with his family in their large home, which is a non-smoking environment. His mother works collaboratively with the carers and is a valuable part of the team.

He enjoys listening to music, sensory activities and painting. He loves the outdoors, birds and nature. He has two younger brothers who he loves playing with.

The home is in a rural location outside Guildford with Wanborough station 11 minutes away. There is free parking at the family home.

Careincludes driving and accompanying him to school on weekdays, medication administration, Close monitoring of observations and signs of distress, learning his cues and troubleshooting what he needs. Ability to recognise a deteriorating child and taking action if needed. Providing personal hygiene, administration of feeds, as well as chest physio and suctioning. Support with his communication devices is also needed. This young boy enjoys having fun so play and creativity is essential.

Night Careincludes giving medication, repositioning. Close monitoring of observations and signs of distress, providing personal hygiene, administration of feeds, and fluid, as well as chest physio and suctioning.

Job Specification

· Fit, a quick thinker, energetic and enthusiastic.

· Experience working with clients with complex needs and as a support worker (NVQ Health and Social Care qualification would be beneficial).

· You will be required to attend school, hospital appointments and visits out.

· You may be asked to support the family on holiday.

· Excellent observation skills and a high level of competency are essential.

· Experience working with children, or young people, would be preferable.

· Practical experience of suctioning, PEG feeding and chest physio would be ideal.

· Excellent communication skills including a high standard of written and spoken English.

· Full clean UK driving licence.

Where practical skills are desirable training will be offered to support with this.
