Job Description

Term time only: 39 weeks working per year. Term time only salary - £18,559 - £19,970 per annum

The Medical Needs Education & Reintegration Service (MNERS) is part of the Targeted Education Service. The MNERS Team in Wiltshire works with children and young people of compulsory school age who cannot attend their school for a variety of health-related needs, which may be complex and can include mental health issues. The MNERS Team also undertakes children’s ward-based teaching and education support for in-patients at Salisbury District Hospital.

LIVE WORK SUPPORT

We have an exciting opportunity for 2 part-time Support Worker coaches, to join our small team of MNERS Teachers and Support Workers. These posts will be based in the North/West of the County with an office base at County Hall, Trowbridge.

The majority of MNERS sessions are delivered remotely using MS Teams. You will therefore mainly work remotely (from home or other agreed location) with attendance at Wiltshire Council Office Hubs for meetings, collaborative working and training. These are term-time only roles and will involve travel within Wiltshire.

About the role

The Support Worker has a key role in inspiring and supporting students to achieve and make progress in every aspect of their education, whilst they are unable to attend their usual educational placement.

You will engage and support students in the educational activities delivered by MNERS; mentoring and coaching students to become positive and successful learners. This will include supporting lessons delivered by MNERS, overseeing additional on-line learning packages, casework recording and some personal development work with individual students. You may also assist students with school reintegration. This may involve working in different locations across Wiltshire, including visiting students’ homes and working closely with schools and other agencies, including CAMHS.

About you

You will have experience of working with both primary and secondary age students; including with vulnerable young people and those with complex needs.

An understanding of mental health and other issues which can affect young people is relevant for this role. You will have a good understanding of safeguarding principles and a working knowledge of the Department for Education's 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' document. Experience of multi-agency working, and the use of case management systems is desirable.

You will work as part of a small team and have an ability to engage and motivate young people with an enthusiastic, creative and flexible approach.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 7th June 2023.

Interviews can be held both virtually on Microsoft Teams and in person, if your interview is virtual, candidates will be sent a link before the interview to download the Teams App. All current public health advice is followed for candidate and employee safety.
