Job Title: Communications Data Investigator
Salary: £32,194 to £34,452 plus a Shift Disturbance allowance of 20% and a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £32,194 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £34,452 will be via incremental progression.

The Met Intelligence command (MO2) sits within Met Operations, seeking to support and inform Frontline Policing and Specialist Operations.
MO2 consists of multiple units employing .1500 police staff and officers. Intelligence holds the key to preventing and solving crimes, disrupting offenders and criminal networks, and keeping communities safe from harm. By joining MO2 you will be strengthening the ability of the Metropolitan Police to meet these objectives and to improve the lives of those who live and work in this amazing city.
Digital Intelligence Services sits within the Met Intelligence command, and comprises of:
Communications Intelligence, i3 (Open Source), Digital Operations and ANPR. Communications Intelligence is responsible for supporting the MPS with access and advice to the wide variety of digital material generated in our daily lives; use of mobile telephony, the internet, social media, digital apps and the services connected to them, from vehicles to smart watches. The Communications Intelligence Unit has undergone significant transformation to reflect both the growth in data driven investigation, but also the needs of investigators across the MPS for support and advice. The emphasis for the department is on now providing support and guidance as well as being the conduit to data providers.
There are five broad streams of work.

Threats to life – this is supported by a duty team 247, providing access to live information and basic analysis

Urgent Operational Support – provision of data products in proactive and fast time policing scenarios

Standard Applications – where the time critical element is not present, but supporting criminal investigations from Murder to Malicious Communications

Training and capability development – Provision of training to investigative teams, internal CPD, and development of new systems around emerging data sources and risks to existing tactics

Serious and Complex Crime – dedicated support to longer or more challenging operations that cannot fully be supported by our core teams. This team also has responsibility for more sensitive capabilities, together with advice on disclosure and Communications Data as evidence.
Demand in all of these areas has risen significantly in the last 2 years and the department needs to grow in order to continue to support the needs of operational policing.
Vetting
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post; with a willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) once in post, if required.
Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.
