The Post:
We are seeking a caring, committed, and well-qualified full-time Teacher of Mathematics to join our dedicated and experienced Mathematics Department, on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will teach across the year groups in the Senior School. A Level teaching would be available for a suitable candidate.
Our Mathematics Department works together to share good, innovative practice and resources, and to develop the curriculum, schemes of work and enrichment opportunities in response to the needs of our pupils. Set sizes are relatively small and the department's results are excellent, including in Further Maths.
We follow the AQA specification at GCSE Level for Mathematics and some pupils have the opportunity to study GCSE Statistics or AQA Level 2 Further Mathematics for enrichment. For A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, we follow the Edexcel specification. We are introducing the Edexcel Mathematics in Context qualification from September 2023.
We believe that the best mathematicians should be challenged to develop the pursuit of excellence in mathematics. We encourage every pupil to attain the highest standards of which they are capable, to develop a positive attitude towards the subject, to enjoy the learning experience and to learn to persevere with topics that they may initially find difficult.
Curriculum Arrangements:
Pupils have four 50-minute lessons per week in Years 7 to 9, five lessons in Year 10 and four lessons in Year 11. They are placed in appropriate sets to best support their learning. Set sizes allow each pupil to work confidently and effectively at a suitable level and pace, with both an appropriate level of support and opportunities to explore the mathematical ideas in greater detail. We have a flexible approach and pupils are regularly monitored and, if necessary, moved to a different set, in order to enable the highest possible achievement.
In the Sixth Form, pupils are given the option of studying AS/A2 Mathematics and AS/A2 Further Mathematics (Edexcel specifications) in five 50-minute lessons per week, per subject in the Lower Sixth and six lessons per week in the Upper Sixth. The small set sizes allow for strong support and a personalised learning approach for every pupil. In addition, comprehensive support is provided to our pupils wishing to read Mathematics at university, including preparation for the Oxbridge entrance examinations, STEP papers and interview practice.

- Be proficient in the use of ICT in the classroom (including remote teaching, should this be required) and confident in using new technologies to share and promote good practice;
- Be committed to the mission, aims, ethos and standards of Abbey Gate College.
Salary:
The salary for this position will depend upon the qualifications and relevant experience of the successful candidate. Abbey Gate College has a pay scale, comparable to and competitive with the national pay scale for teachers.
