What you’ll be doing
As the Editorial Assistant, you will be part of a small, busy team, working alongside a Project Editor, Editorial Manager, Portfolio Development Manager and Production teams. This role is a supporting role within the team responsible for the management of the publishing of Standards, Codes & Guidance titles.

You’ll be an enthusiastic, intelligent and organised individual with good attention to detail, the ability to work independently and use initiative. You’ll have excellent communication and IT skills with experience in MS Office. Ideally you will have editorial experience and some experience in conducting or managing a research project.

A little more about the role
Supporting all activities leading to publication of material, including:
- proofreading;
- copy editing;
- chasing up signed contracts;
- archiving of contracts;
- chasing up of manuscripts, copy and stakeholder reviews;
- adding authors/freelancers to our payments system;
- managing our outbound permissions processes for external resources to be used in titles;
- dealing with inbound permissions requests to the IET;
- ensuring all illustrations are created and logged and approved by Production;
- liaising with warehouse for distribution of books to authors;
- updating other websites;
- undertaking stakeholder and market sizing research in support of publishing proposals;
- providing support in meetings (taking minutes and circulating to stakeholders);
- assisting with the co-ordination of projects through the publishing programme;
- monitoring and reporting of customer download statistics;
- uploading of manuscripts to our consultation site and monitoring and compiling responses;
- to undertake any other duties and projects at the request of the line manager;
- to comply with data protection legislation and act responsibly on matters of data disclosure both internally and to third parties;
- to be familiar with the Health and Safety and Fire policies for the organisation and to attend mandatory updates where required.
- completing adhoc editorial tasks to support the publication of Codes & Guidance titles.
A little more about what we’re looking for
- Meticulous attention to detail in the presentation and delivery of work and of written English;
- Excellent IT abilities and experience with MS office (particularly Excel, Office 360 and MS Word);
- Be able to work to tight deadlines, with excellent time-management, planning and problem -solving skills – candidates should be highly organised individuals;
- An ability to engage and work with high profile authors and editors;
- Able to work productively on their own initiative - must be self-motivated;
- Able to manage workloads to meet timescales, budgets and deliverables; and
- An excellent communicator with strong presentational skills.
