Job Description

The Clinical Biochemistry Service is one of the largest in the UK, has more than 150 staff with an annual workload in excess of 15 million tests. Core services are provided by a fully automated laboratory on each site with specialist services centralised mainly at Charing Cross Hospital.

You will be working with the new, state of the art Abbott Alinity CI Immuno-Chemistry, Advanced Instruments OsmoPro analysers.

The Clinical Biochemistry laboratory is covered for 24 hours every day and you would be expected to participate in the shifts including late shifts and weekends and contribute to the continuity and quality of care for patients in the Trust hospitals. You may also on occasion be asked to cover night shifts in absence of night workers. Staff are expected to travel across our six hospital sites when required.

You will be HCPC registered and hold an MSc/Specialist portfolio or have equivalent Clinical Biochemistry experience 2 – 3 years post registration experience. Multi discipline experience will be an advantage but is not essential.

To maintain the required levels of laboratory safety and good laboratory practice, as specified in local and national guidelines.

To work with biomedical scientists and clinical scientists in the provision of a comprehensive and effectiveClinical Biochemistryservice for the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, as directed by the Head of the Department.

To participate in the efficient handling, processing and analysis of samples in the laboratory, under supervision.

To maintain effective records of all activities and procedures, and to contribute towards the maintenance of the laboratory's quality system.

To check, keep clean and maintain laboratory equipment.

To carry out supervised laboratory procedures in all sections of the laboratory, as directed by the Head of the Unit and senior scientific staff.

To undergo appropriate teaching and training as directed and as necessary in order to maintain HPC registration and to maintain suitable records of all training activities undertaken.
