Newnham College wishes to recruit a permanent Senior Porter to join the busy team in the Porters’ Lodge, supporting and deputising for the Head Porter. The Porters’ Lodge traditionally acts as a hub for the College, providing information and support, an efficient and effective front reception, a friendly, welcoming face and helping people with their enquiries. This post is one of two Senior Porters who deputise and support the Head Porter. Duties include overseeing security, fire prevention and health and safety for a 24 hours a day, 365 days operation.
The hours of work average 37.5 a week and are worked over a shift systems of day shifts, 4 days on followed by 4 days off, so working on some weekend days is a requirement. The post is paid at spine point 34 of the University’s Single salary spine, which currently equates to £28,929 pa, and increases to £29,605 pa from August 2023. This post is pensionable under the College’s attractive contributory pension scheme, with an employer contribution rate of 21.6%. It carries with it a holiday entitlement of 33 days per year (inclusive of bank holidays), a free meal when on duty, free car parking and free use of the College’s gym facilities.
