Job Introduction

Blue Peter is looking for two experienced film-making Assistant Producers to join the Film Team to help us deliver a number of location based short-films (approx. 6mins in length). This role will entail working in the office and from home to plan and edit shoots, as well as attending/shooting on location for the filming of the items.
Blue Peter is the longest running programme children’s TV series in the world, an inspirational, factual entertainment brand that constantly evolves to remain relevant to our UK kids’ audience. Every week, we encourage kids to join in, find out new stuff, be creative and adventurous – and earn their very own BP badge. We feature brilliant kids, celebrating their lives, ideas and representing their experiences and through presenter challenges, entertaining guests, competitions and creative ideas we want to help kids find out about the world, inspiring people and discover things to do.
Main Responsibilities
Our film team APs pitch ideas, research and script exciting and ambitious pre-recorded films. You’ll need to be a very skilled self-shooter and confident directing sequences on location with presenters and contributors.
You’ll self-edit first cuts using Avid as well as working with craft editors to create finished films. Demonstrable experience of working with children and getting the best performance out of them is crucial.
Are you the right candidate?
The right candidates will have:
- Substantial previous experience as a film making AP.
- A proven track record of overseeing the whole film making process from development/ scripting, risk assessing, filming, to delivery and paperwork.
- You’ll need very strong shooting skills on FS7/FS5 or similar as well as experience in working with crews.
- Experience of recording your own sound would be beneficial
- Experience of risk assessing a variety of activities for location shoots
- Significant experience of working with presenters & contributors and producing them on screen.
- Knowledge of the CBBC audience as well as the Blue Peter brand and its output.
- A strong understanding of BBC Editorial guidelines.
- A full clean driving licence.
