Job Description
Purpose of Appointment:
To work as part of a team and contribute to the provision of a comprehensive and person-centred care service to individual residents of this residential care home, under the direction of the management team. To assist in promoting the general wellbeing of residents, within the warm and welcoming Christian ethos of the home.
Hours
Must be willing to work a mixture of morning, afternoon and evening shifts. All candidates must be willing to work every other weekend.
Responsibilities:
·- Supporting residents with all aspects of their day-to-day needs, including all aspects of their personal care
·- Assisting, as part of the team, with the care of residents who are living with dementia.
- Assisting in the care of people at the end of their lives
· Responding to calls from residents via the emergency call system
- greeting and welcoming visitors whilst recognising the need for security within the building.
· Setting tables and trays, serving meals, helping residents who need help with eating and drinking.
· Observing high standards of health, hygiene and safety, paying particular attention to the Health & Safety regulations as laid down by the management.
· Taking part in staff meetings, training and performance management meetings as appropriate.
· Becoming acquainted with the fire regulations and taking part in fire drills.
· Other general duties relating to the welfare of residents and the wellbeing of the Home.
· Promoting anti-discriminatory practices and supporting individuals’ rights and choices.
Please note, our residents require care 24 hours a day, 365 days a week and it may not always be possible to take annual leave on a bank holiday.
Although care duties will normally be carried out in the unit indicated on the weekly rota, this may not always be possible and staff must be prepared to work in any unit as advised by the Supervisor.

PERSON SPECIFICATION – CQC regulation 19 : Fit and Proper Persons applies – to ensure that providers only employ staff who will provide safe, compassionate and competent care: of good character; having the required qualifications, skills, competencies and experience needed; and being able by reason of health (after any reasonable adjustments) to perform tasks that are intrinsic to the job.
Essential Qualifications
o all mandatory training courses completed
o care certificate completed
o administration of medications
o NVQ2/ NVQ3 or Care Certificate in Health and Social Care or equivalent
Skills
o Strong interpersonal skills – listening, observation, empathy
o Understanding of the concept of person-centred care
o Proficient oral and written communication skills: to receive and give information accurately and to facilitate communication with service users
o Good organisational skills to respond to demanding environment
Experience
o Experience of providing care
o Experience of working in a team
o Experience of working with the elderly
o Experience of working with people who are living with dementia.
o Experience of working within a care setting
