Job Description
To perform a basic range of activities in the Trust’s mortuaries providing optimum patient care, ensuring that the provision of an efficient service that is in accordance with Trust, Coroner’s and Department of Health regulations and requirements whilst supporting the other staff within the team whilst.
Please be advised that interviews are scheduled for 24th April.
1. Undertake agreed clinical and non clinical tasks following training, ensuring referral to appropriate trained staff as required.
2. To ensure that all working practices within the Mortuary adhere to Trust policy, Coroner’s Office and Department of Health regulations and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
3. To arrange for specimens taken during post mortem examinations to be sent to the histology laboratory.
4. To ensure those accurate records of the bodies of deceased patients received into and collected from the mortuaries are in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
5. To prepare the bodies of deceased patients for viewing in accordance with trust policies and procedures.
6. To prepare the bodies of deceased patients for release to undertakers in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
7. To participate in appraisals and personal reviews and to work to achieve personal objectives.
8. To consult with and inform the Network Mortuary Manager on all matters related to the trust Mortuaries and their staff.
9. To ensure the provision of a high quality service. To ensure that Unit Wide standards are maintained and monitored to improve the quality of total care to all that come into contact with services provided by Walsgrave Hospital NHS Trust.
10. To undertake such other duties as shall be prescribed by the Network Mortuary Manager in accordance with the grade and nature of the post.

Physical
1. There is a requirement for frequent intense physical effort for short periods throughout the working day
Mental
1. The post holder needs to be able to multi task while performing an activity. It is important to be able to keep track of several tasks at once due to the interruptions of others and the necessity to facilitate other mortuary users
Emotional
1. Constant exposure to distressing and emotional situations.
2. Dealing with angry, abusive and occasionally violent next of kin
3. Dealing with those deceased known to the technician and their families.
4. Dealing with the bereaved and their emotions.
5. Dealing with multi faith requirements.
6. Trauma, decomposed and child/baby deaths are routinely expected and dealt with accordingly.
