Established in April 2016, the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) was set up to coordinate all aspects of nuclear business within the Ministry of Defence (MOD); responsible for all submarines (from buying them through to disposal when they reach the end of their life), nuclear warheads, skills, related infrastructure and day-to-day nuclear policy.

Delivering the Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD) is Defence’s top priority. We need a capable and credible nuclear deterrent to successfully deter the most extreme threats to our national security and way of life. The Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE) consists of all the organisations that support the nuclear deterrent including civilian (Civil Service), military (Navy), and supplier areas, and covers people, equipment, and infrastructure.

Critical to this mission is being able to attract the brightest and best possible people to the DNE and to encourage them to stay and develop their career within the Enterprise. That’s where the DNE People and Skills Transformation Team comes in; we are a high-reaching team working on modern solutions to set the conditions for an agile, motivated, well-resourced and skilled workforce.

The DNE People and Skills Transformation Programme leads a suite of projects spanning outreach, employee value proposition, early careers entry routes, strategic workforce planning, skills taxonomy development and current workforce upskilling.

The position is based at Abbey Wood in Bristol with a strong hybrid working policy. There is an expectation that you will attend Abbey Wood approximately once per month for pre-arranged team meetings as a minimum.

This position is advertised at 17.8 hours per week.

We are looking for someone who is energetic and enthusiastic to join the Talent Pipeline team which is responsible for cohering early career talent entry across the DNE. This role covers a diverse range of activities to support the delivery of DNE graduate talent schemes, including student bursaries and internships.

This role leads the delivery of DNE graduate talent schemes and expansion to meet the increased demand for talent. This includes the DNE Defence Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) Undergraduate Sponsorship Scheme (DSUS) which sponsors successful candidates through payment of their university tuition fees, a £5k annual bursary, summer placements and a permanent job in the DNE upon graduation. The role is also responsible for running delivery of other graduate talents schemes, including the DNE wide student internships (1 year or longer).

The role is responsible for leading a high-quality DNE graduate talent delivery service including collaborating closely DNE business host departments and students as they progress on their DNE journey. This role will also collaborate to integrate the delivery of DNE graduate talent schemes into the DNE early careers operating model by April 2024.

Role responsibilities include:

• Owning the delivery of the DNE DSUS scheme and intern programme and oversee the management of the students on their journey. This includes recruitment, liaising with departments hosting students and with enabling teams including commercial, finance and legal to ensure success.
• Developing policy documents to facilitate the end-to-end running of DNE graduate talent schemes.
• Working with the DNE team members, including MOD and industry partners, to establish the demand signal and sponsors for DNE graduate schemes.
• Engaging with MOD and industry partners to cohere delivery of DNE graduate talent schemes and deliver solutions to meet the demand signal.
• Engaging with DNE team members to ensure student placements and permanent roles for students, where necessary, are in place.
• Leading on DNE graduate talent scheme outreach for DSUS and internships, working with MOD communications and wider to promote these opportunities.
• Raising risks and blockers to the delivery of graduate talent schemes and lead mitigation activity
• Leading lessons learnt exercises to improve delivery graduate talent schemes.
• Financial reporting and forecasting for the DSUS and intern schemes
• Line management responsibility for a HEO post
• Providing support to deliver high priority tasks across the Talent Pipeline team as necessary

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
