We are looking for a Fermentation Research Scientist to join our team in Nottingham. You will have fermentation experience and an excellent understanding of fermentation kinetics.
Do you hold a PhD in life science and have experience in fermentation?
If so, this is a great opportunity for a Research Scientist to support the fermentation process for recombinant protein products. The site you will be joining is expanding and you will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment. You will join the Technical Support Group to improve productivity, titre, yield, efficiency and robustness of protein products.
This role is based in central Nottingham, the site is a short walk from the train station and tram stop so it is easily accessible.
Albumedix is now part of Sartorius, a recognised world leader in recombinant human albumin products and technologies.
What you will accomplish together with us
Provide practical support for biopharmaceutical manufacturing of upstream process steps (shake – flask, seeds, main fermenter, cell separation)
You will plan and design experiments
Operation of fermentation experiments using Benchtop Bioreactors (0.5 – 2L) and Pilot Bioreactor (20-200L). Including CIP, SIP, calibration, media preparation, feeding, seeding, inoculation fermentation monitoring and harvesting
Prepare, test and release laboratory growth media, preparation of reagents and buffers
Maintain records and keep laboratory notebooks up to date
Prepare data summaries, interpret results and reports and suggest future action
Provide fermentation support to generate albumin – based products for enhanced service projects and application areas

What will convince us
PhD or MSc in life sciences or a related discipline (Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology etc.)
Fermentation experience (aerobic fermentation desirable)
Excellent understanding of fermentation kinetics
Well-developed independent research skills, including statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DoE) for process optimisation
Excellent technical knowledge and practical experience in running, optimising and troubleshooting fermentations
Experience in fermentation scale up
