Job Description

To ensure the highest possible standards of building control enforcement permissible within the scope of the Building Control Policy. Providing a proactive enabling approach to the functions within the Building Control Unit, ensuring statutory obligations are complied with.

  • To ensure site inspection work complies with statutory requirements, is completed within the limited time periods and that intermediate inspections are done as necessitated by the stages of construction to comply.
  • Vetting of Building Regulation applications to show compliance with the regulations and associated legislation.
  • On completion of works, to ensure that all necessary inspections have been carried out and all conditions have been cleared.
  • Deal with all enquiries, give advice on the regulations and associated subjects, dealing with correspondence, assisting in the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the Unit.
  • Watch out for all contraventions of the Building Regulations and take appropriate action, to ensure compliance.
  • The inspection and administration of dangerous structures. Responding/participating within the scope of the Major Emergencies Response Plan. Acting as operations and support providing advice to support services, such as the Police, Fire Brigade, etc. Co-ordination of damage assessment of, and advice on safe access to, dangerous buildings during a major incident. Working alone with minimum support under concentrated pressure.
  • To keep and maintain clear and concise records of all activity associated with the functions of the Building Control Unit.
  • To act as a witness within the Magistrates Court when required.
  • To attend and deal with reports associated with drainage issues reported to the service.
  • To play a significant role in the development and support for other staff within the Unit, particularly in respect to technical matters. Providing educational tutorial-based assessments on the ability of other members of the service relating to capability regarding assessment of structural matters.
  • To participate actively in the promotion of the service on a day to day basis.
  • To attend sectional and departmental meetings as required The job holder may be required at any time to undertake any work up to and/or at a level consistent with existing responsibilities.

These tasks may be at any location in Cheshire East, to ensure the effective deployment of labour, materials, transport and equipment to meet daily service requirements.
