Description of Role
Waltham Forest Federated GP Network are supporting the Harrow Road Medical Centre in recruiting a Practice Receptionist.
Receptionists are the first point of call for patients. The individual will need to provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive attitude to patients and visitors. They play a vital role in directing patients to the appropriate healthcare service.
Core Duties
· Respond to patient queries and liaise with the wider primary care team;
· Manage appointment requests and signpost patients to our range of services;
· Maintain patient records and patient confidentiality;
· Utilise other information systems to support efficient workflow processes;
· Email, scan and code clinical correspondence;
· Process prescription requests in a timely manner;
· Support patient health promotion recall campaigns.
· Encourage uptake of our digital tools to support patient self-care;
· Take part in all mandatory training, annual appraisal and continued education, learning and development.
· Communicate (in person, on the phone and via email) with a wide range of people in a professional and kind manner.
· Work effectively with colleagues as part of a team.
Other Duties
· Participate in regular appraisals.
· Attend training and development activities as identified and participate in meetings as required.
· Maintain administration systems and workspace used in a clean and tidy condition.
· Maintain a good working knowledge of Health and Safety procedures and fire precautions, and operate the correct procedures and participate in policy development and data collection where appropriate.
· Work flexibly to meet the needs of patients and be adaptable to change.
· Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and purpose of the job as may be agreed by the post holder.

The post-holder should recognize the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:
· Communicate effectively with other team members;
· Communicate effectively with patients and carers;
· Recognise people’s needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.
Health & Safety
The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others’ health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, the practice Health & Safety Manual, and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures. This will include:
· Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines;
· Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised;
· Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holder’s role.

In the performance of the duties outlined in this job description, the post-holder will have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation.

Person Specification
Essential
· Reception or customer care experience is essential;
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
· Good IT skills
· Must be able to work within practice processes and procedures;
· A willingness to learn and progress with a ‘can do’ attitude.
Desirable
· EMIS Web experience;
· Primary care administration experience;
· GCSE grade A to C in English and Math.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Part-time hours: 20 - 40 per week
Salary: £12.00-£18.00 per hour
