Job Description

The Homeland Security Group (HSG) unites capabilities and expertise to deliver better outcomes from the UK’s response to the most serious domestic threats – Terrorism, Cyber, State Threats and Economic Crime. The group will strengthen coordination and collective focus across a range of growing and overlapping threats, whilst remaining consistent with existing strategies.

The Protect, Prepare, CBRNE and Science and Technology (PPCS) directorate is a part of the Homeland Security mission in the Home Office, which is a key part of the national security community.

This post is within the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE), and Science and Technology Unit which is responsible for understanding and mitigating the threat and risk of terrorist access to, and use of, CBRNE materials and weapons in the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, high-performing team and we are looking for a policymaker with strong leadership, and communications skills to help support our explosives, and canine detection policy portfolio.

The successful applicant will be responsible for leading on elements of explosives related policy, and canine explosives detection work across the Homeland Security Group which will often require working closely with colleagues from other departments, agencies, law enforcement, science and technology, and our international partners.

They will lead on understanding the threat, and identifying, developing, and helping to implement appropriate policies to mitigate it, and they will have responsibility for leading our canine explosives detection work.

Whilst the work is often very demanding, you will be part of a supportive team and you will have the opportunity to work on an exciting policy area that will help to keep the public safe.
