Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) has a history of developing their Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP) with 140 ACPs currently working within Trust. The Haematology and Oncology department is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic ACP to join our existing team, providing excellent clinical care to our patients.

UHB consists of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Birmingham Chest Clinic. As the lead regional centre for Cancer care and Bone Marrow Transplants, the Haematology service offers specialised services including Level 3 and 4 Stem Cell Transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, teenage and young adults (TYA) cancer care, apheresis, Comprehensive Haemophilia Centre, specialist integrated haematological malignancy diagnostic service (siHMDS) and a nationally recognised academic programme. The Oncology service delivers specialist Systematic Anti-Cancer Treatment and covers an extensive range of tumour sites. Outpatient treatment is delivered via bespoke Day Units, whilst inpatient treatment is delivered via dedicated inpatient wards and a specialist Young Persons Unit. Emergency for both services are managed by the Acute Oncology Service (AOS).

Haematology and Oncology services are supported by clinicians, junior doctors, CNSs, AOS, ACPs and specialist nurses. Inpatient wards and the Young Persons Unit for TYA care are based at QEH and all sites have bespoke Day Units, procedure areas and clinics.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post holder will practice under supervision as a trainee in Advanced Clinical Practice to develop a high level of expertise within the specialist service providing advice, education and support to staff, patients, their families and carers.

This will encompass training in the skills of advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice throughout the directorate.

Given the sensitive nature of the specialities, the department are seeking a candidate who can communicate complex information to patients and their relatives/carers.

The post holder will work collaboratively with a range of healthcare professionals, whilst being supported by a dedicated administrative team. They should be flexible to the service needs and delivery and work across sites.

The post holder will be required to undertake and complete a programme of education to achieve a Masters level qualification in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent CAT points. They will deliver an 80% clinical component to their role and 20% related to relevant MSc level modules.

The post holder will be required to adhere to all aspects of the ACP Governance standards and procedures document.

Qualifications

Essential

Professional Health Care Registration with a UK Regulated Body (NMC/HCPC/GPC)

Evidence of Degree Level study/attainment i.e. BSc/Degree Level Qualification or equivalent CATS

Post Graduate Qualification in specific speciality or equivalent experience

Teaching & Assessing/Mentoring qualification

Willingness to undertake and complete MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice

Experience

Essential

Evidence/experience of working in an MDT within a health care provider service

Evidence of on-going CPD

Evidence of teaching in a variety of environments

Knowledge & evidence of research/audit processes and application

A sound knowledge of professional priorities and issues relating to NHS care provision
