Health Editor, Maternity Cover (up to £38,000)

About the role
BBC Good Food is Britain’s biggest food media brand, inspiring and helping the nation cook for 30 years. Bbcgoodfood.com is the market leading food website in the UK, operating to an inclusive and exhaustive mission that enables everyone to eat good food.
Reporting to the Editor, the Health Editor is responsible for the delivery of the health strategy, campaigns and overseeing of all health published on bbcgoodfood.com and olive, maintaining and growing the site’s enormous scale whilst deepening engagement and audience satisfaction. You will be working closely with a small, friendly, and supportive team, with our health content producer reporting into you.
As the Health Editor (BBC Good Food, olive Magazine) you will:
- Own Good Food and olive’s health strategy cross platform and manage the digital budget for all health content
- Monitor and report on health content performance monthly and make recommendations to optimise reach and continue growth
- Work with commercial teams and editors to produce compelling and engaging native campaigns that adhere to BBC policy and editorial guidelines
- Identify key gaps in Good Food and olive’s health and nutrition recipe and non-recipe content and be a continuous font of ideas and inspiration for new content that will appeal to our audiences
- Ensure all content commissioned and published adheres to Good Food and olive’s health philosophy and SEO best practices
- Oversee the upload of all health content on site and be comfortable commissioning external contributors and internal staff on the production of multimedia content to include guides, video, infographics and recipes
- Support in the successful delivery and evolution of Good Food’s Healthy Diet Plan across digital and print
- Work closely with the social media manager and marketing executive on promotion strategies for all new and relevant health content
- Support and oversee health content for BBC good food magazine, including the delivery and commission of the monthly health news column
Requirements
- Highest standard of accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience of managing and supporting more junior team members
- Excellent grasp and understanding of SEO best practice
- A demonstrable passion for and excellent knowledge of health and nutrition
- A proven record of working with sensitive content
- Experience writing tight briefs for external contributors
- The ability to write copy in line with highest editorial standards
- The ability to work quickly to tight deadlines under pressure
- Flexibility and a professional approach at all times
- The ability to self-supervise in order to meet deadlines
- Ability to work in and contribute to a fun and dynamic team-based environment
- Must be educated to degree level or equivalent industry qualification
- Experience of working on a consumer-facing digital platform
- Must be comfortable working with a variety of CMS platforms, analytical tools, basic html, Photoshop and image archives
