As a Landside Response Officer in our Small Boats Operational team, you’ll be playing a crucial part in the Saving of Lives at Sea operation and identifying vulnerable people who may require medical or welfare support.

This is a demanding operational role where you’ll need to be resilient, empathetic and act with integrity. If you enjoy varied and rewarding work and want a challenge where no day is the same, we’ll help you shape a fantastic career and provide great benefits including:

Your role

Your Security Officer work will be mainly based at Dover or Ramsgate. Official vehicles are available at Essex and West Sussex ports for daily or short-notice travel to a variety of ports if necessary (you’ll need a full manual driving licence)

You’ll start with a minimum of 3 weeks training at one of our hubs and from there, you’ll be carrying out a range of activities including

· Checking passengers and their documentation

· Interviewing individuals and carrying out investigations, searches, and arrests

· Dealing with casework queries and ensuring any decisions are followed up appropriately

· Visiting a range of maritime and high-risk locations on patrol and carrying out security and freight searches (you’ll need to be physically fit)

· Liaising with stakeholders and law enforcement partners to preserve evidence, arrest offenders and manage detention

· Collecting information to aid intelligence and security

You’ll enjoy this career if you are

· Resilient, adaptable and relish variety with different shifts, locations and challenging and dynamic environments

· Able to keep calm, and act professionally and ethically to solve issues in sometimes difficult situations

· Genuinely interested in people, great at building relationships and can communicate clearly with empathy while keeping an open mind

· Motivated to lead, make the right decisions, and demonstrate professional behaviour and standards

· Objective, analytical and enjoy making reasoned recommendations based on valid information that can be justified
