Tell me a bit about Bramley Care
Bramley Care is a family-run business that specialises in providing bespoke, professional care for older people and people in the community. Whether in the comfort of their own home through Bramley Home Care or in one of our specialist luxury residential care homes at The Old Rectory in Dorset, Millbrook House Child Okeford or Bramley House in Wiltshire.
At Bramley Care, our values are at the heart of everything we do. These values underpin our philosophy of care and respect for our residents in our three care homes and our home care clients. But equally important, also the way in which we look after our valued employees.
Will Bramley Care support me in my career development?
At Bramley Care, as well as providing the very best standards of care and service to our residents and clients, staff development is extremely important to us. We offer a comprehensive training package to QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care and encourage all our staff to study beyond this if they are keen to progress to management roles.
At Bramley Care we have a strong culture of staff training and improvement. Many of our staff have gained their career foundations with us and moved on to exciting jobs in the health sector, but we are also very keen to promote internally and encourage our Care Assistants to take on additional responsibilities, giving them opportunities for promotion to Senior Carer roles. Several of our Senior Managers have worked their way up from Care Assistant roles and as a result our staff retention is very high. Our commitment to staff development is vitally important to our ethos and is reflected in our CQC report and the feedback from our Investors in People accreditation.
Is Bramley Care a good company to work for?
Yes... At Bramley Care, additional to great support in career development, we also hold regular social events to bring all our staff together (Covid-19 permitting), such Christmas meals and summer barbecues. Each Christmas, all of our staff receive a fantastic Christmas hamper, we have regular awards for staff who have shown particular dedication, and we also offer bonuses and tokens to show our appreciation for hard work and loyalty.
What would my job involve?
You would take responsibility for the care of our residents during your shift, this would involve personal care duties such as bathing, dressing and assisting toileting/incontinence care. You would take an interest in the residents and clients, helping them to live as full and enjoyable a life as their health permits. You would also be required to carry out certain administrative duties, such as updating care records. You would support residents and clients at mealtimes, helping to serve meals. You might be asked to join in with our entertainment staff to help with planned activities, such as arts and crafts.
I’m not sure if being a Care Assistant is right for me?
It takes a very special person to be a really good Care Assistant. We don’t care a jot about your age, your gender, your race or your religion. What matters to us, and to our residents, is that you have the right personal qualities for the job.
We asked some of our Care Assistants what they thought the essential qualities were for working as a Carer. Here are a few examples of what they said:
“Patience, understanding and resilience.”
“Abundance of patience, consideration, able to think outside the box, forward planning. Good communication and listening skills and good rapport with colleagues.”
“Passionate, caring, patient, kind, responsible, enthusiastic, hard working.”
Being a Care Assistant can be very rewarding, so we also asked some of our Care Assistants what they thought were the most enjoyable parts of their roles. Here’s what they said:
“Bringing happiness to residents, love a cheeky smile, and laugh. Being privileged to help enrich lives in all aspects, which gives me so much pride and satisfaction. The knowledge that when I leave my shift I have fulfilled my role to the very best of my ability. And the fact I feel a part of one big happy family, residents, and colleagues alike, fulfils me.”
“Making the time which people have left special for them and making the residents feel as though they still have a purpose. It is always rewarding when the residents are at the end of life making a difficult situation for the families to feel that their loved ones are being truly cared for and that they are in safe hands.”
But being a Care Assistant can also be very challenging. We asked our Care Assistants what they found most difficult about their jobs. Here is what they said:
“Some days can be exhausting and very challenging. Care work it’s the hardest job but the most rewarding one too.”
“The job can be very busy at times and sometimes I feel I don’t have enough hands nor time to get all the tasks done. But with help from team members and being organised then things will get done. I worry about rushing the residents as that’s something I don’t want to do. I want to provide the best care possible.”
Finally, we asked if our Carers felt proud of the job they do. Here’s what they said:
“I’m extremely proud to be a Care Assistant, knowing that every day I’m here to help, guide and assist, to make the residents have the most enjoyable time and to make sure they enjoy their last years of life.”
