Pay:
- £11.05 per hour during initial period of training
- £22.08 per hour for deployment during industrial action
- £14.72 per hour for deployment in all other spate conditions
- Travelling expenses at £0.45/Mile
- £1612 annual retainer payable monthly
Contract type:
Four hours per month to attend training and then ‘as and when required’ according to service need during periods of staff shortages and spate conditions (very high numbers of incidents).
Location: Humberside Fire and Rescue Service
Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is looking for people to become Contingency Fire Crew (CFC) to help keep local people safe in the event of staff shortages and spate conditions within East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.
There will be no average day for a member of our Contingency Fire Crew. You could be attending a range of incidents including fires or road traffic collisions, helping to save lives and providing emergency fire and rescue cover for the people of Humberside. The Contingency Crew will be called on to support during periods of staff shortage and during any spate conditions.
There may be a requirement to work 2 consecutive shifts (up to 12 hours each shift). Therefore, a Contingency Crew member could work for 24 hours with appropriate rest periods included.
We will provide you with an initial training programme and all of the support you will need. You will work in teams drawn from people who you will train with and this will include some of our experienced staff.
You will be required to be medically and physically fit and the National Fitness Selection Test (NFST) will be an integral part of our selection process.
Training
You must be available to attend an initial training course
- Take part in a continuous training programme by attending theoretical training sessions, exercises, practical drill sessions and other forms of training to maintain competence levels
- Attend one four hour training session per month.
Minimum requirements:
You are required to:
- Pass the National Fitness Selection Tests – which includes working within confined spaces, a manual dexterity test and being able to work at height.
- Undertake an interview
- Undergo in-depth medical examinations to ensure you are suitable to undertake demanding firefighting duties.
- Successful applicants are required to undertake a Basic Disclosure check and provide references.
Please note: The role is not a full-time or on-call firefighter role, it is to provide cover during periods of staff shortages including industrial action and, spate conditions such as extreme weather events, etc.
