The Role: Marine Superintendent; UK Dredging
Purpose:
The day-to-day planning, scheduling, supervision, management and control of UKD’s operational fleet to ensure that vessels are deployed safely, efficiently and effectively to deliver customers’ needs and optimum utilisation.
Project management of internal and external contract works.
Accountabilities:
- Maintain daily operational contact with ships Masters to advise and instruct on operational and dredging related activity.
- Ensure the safe operations of ships and compliance to all international marine requirements.
- Conduct regular ship inspections to ensure compliance to the statutory requirements. The Marine Superintendent will liaise between the DPA and vessels to ensure compliance to ABP’s risk management framework.
- To assist with the crewing of UK Dredging vessels, in order to achieve familiarity with crewing processes and enabling redundancy within the department.
- Project Management; planning, coordination and site management of ABP and external operations to ensure that operational, contractual, Health & Safety and environmental requirements are understood, communicated and fully adhered to in line with customer and business expectations.
- First point of liaison with ABP Harbour Masters and external client representatives during works.
- Technical input into estimating production for tendering of new works and the identification, assessment and management of associated operational and production risks
- Monitor performance, production and vessel efficiency, establish goals, set priorities and implement operational improvements and best practice. Administration and analysis of operational and performance records.
- Interface with Hydrographic survey department to ensure that surveys are suitably scheduled, resourced and prioritised and outputs delivered to support the business needs. Interpret data and effectively translate into allocation of dredging resource.

- On board training and coaching with regards to dredging techniques and use of dredge guidance systems

Skills, Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Certificate of Competency (CoC) (Deck Officer) Chief Mate unlimited.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Extensive knowledge of industry standards and compliance requirements.
- Familiar with requirements of Merchant Shipping Regulations and wider Health and Safety, environmental and security responsibilities.
- Highly organised and analytical with ability to operate effectively under pressure, manage priorities and work to challenging and sometimes changing objectives and deadlines.
- Proven project management skills and capable of focusing on the achievement of required results and drive operational performance.
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the business and present a professional and credible approach at all times.
- Ability to lead, motivate, influence and coach to build effective and productive working relationships.
- Flexible approach to working hours and willing to travel extensively throughout the UK and overseas as necessary
Ideal
- Certificate of Competency (CoC) (Deck Officer) Master Marine <3000GT unlimited with command experience
- Previous experience of dredging operations, hydrographic survey, shipping, ports or marine civil engineering environment.
- Familiar with industry standard dredge guidance systems such as DredgeMaster
