Job Description

Department of Biology

The Department of Biology is looking to appoint an enthusiastic technician to join the team of Professor Neil Bruce and contribute to the Textile Circularity Centre (TCC)

The post is available immediately for a period of 9 months. The role is full-time but part-time would be considered and salary will be in the range £29,762 -£32,411 a year. The deadline for application is 28th April 2023 and interview date will be confirmed later.

Role

The ambition of the TCC is to turn post-consumer textiles, crop residues and household waste into renewable materials for use in textiles. The position is based in the Centre for Novel Agricultural Products (CNAP) in York and will contribute to the material strand of the TCC. Our group has developed a process to turn wastes into sugars that are fermented into bacterial cellulose. The focus of the position will be to provide technical support for the production of bacterial cellulose at the scales necessary for the project. The role requires working in close relationships with CNAP researchers and external collaborators including partners involved in TCC. Within the research group, the candidate will contribute to general technical lab support and to the provision of guidance and training to students and other researchers.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent experience
  • You will have an interest in the subject matter, and relevant knowledge and experience to support the technical activities of the research project (in some instance, further training can be provided).
  • You will have attention to detail, a commitment to performing high-quality research, good communication skills, and a positive collaborative ethos.

We want to recruit the best people for our roles, and we recognise that traditional working patterns may not be suitable for everyone. We offer a range of flexible working options (e.g. flexitime, part-time, job share), please specify your flexible working preferences in your application (number of days / hours etc).

Interview date: To be confirmed

For informal enquiries: please contact Alexandra Lanot ([email protected]) or Neil Bruce ([email protected])
