Apprentice GP Assistant
The successful candidate will be developed to provide exceptional patient services. Working alongside the established teams, you will be enrolled on the Business Administration Apprenticeship level 3 with Clinical Coding with PMA Ltd. In-house training and on the job training will be offered. The role will include signposting patients to the correct service. Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies in a timely manner.

The General Practice Assistant (GPA) is a new and exciting role and provides a unique opportunity to work in the NHS primary care team and implement a fulfilling role providing care for the local population.
The successful candidate will be developed to provide exceptional patient services, working alongside the established teams of admin, GPs and other clinical and non-clinical members.
- Maintain and monitor the practice clinical appointment system
- Process online requests
- Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls within the surgery
- Signpost patients to the correct service. Initiating contact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members and external agencies in a timely manner
- Accurately enter new and temporary registrations and additional patient information as required
- Input data into the patients’ healthcare records as necessary, including coding from clinical correspondence
- Arrange appointments, tests and follow up appointments for patients
- Help the GP liaise with outside agencies
- Face to face consultations with patients taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy
- Monitoring the collection of samples for the nursing team to include urine testing
- Attending team meetings
- Online learning to keep up to date with regulations and policies
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The successful apprentice will be enrolled on the Business Administrator Apprenticeship Level 3 with Clinical Coding with PMA Ltd.
The apprenticeship will be a work-based apprenticeship and the learner does not attend college but completes the apprenticeship whilst in the workplace.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
After gaining 2 years worth of work experience and completing a level 3 in business administration, you will be able to work as a GP assistant or administrator in the primary care sector or a similar setting.

Monday – Friday, shifts to be confirmed within the hours of 08:00 – 18:30. 30 hours per week. (occasional weekends with notice.)
