Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our excellent, dynamic out-patient Physiotherapy team.

Full time and part time posts between Monday-Friday with the requirement to incorporate rota based extended working, including some weekend days as required, have become available.

The role will involve assessing and treating MSK out-patients referred by T+O, GP's and self-referrals giving the post holder exposure to a wide and varied caseload. The post can involve gym class work and group education sessions.

Post graduate experience across core rotations is required - at least one rotation with appropriate experience in a core musculoskeletal setting is essential.

Band 5 applicants with appropriate experience may be considered for a developmental role becoming a band 6 upon completion of role based competencies

Main duties, tasks & skills required

• To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to MSK out-patients within University Hospitals - with sites specified as Birmingham Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope Hospitals. Incorporating extended hours over 6/7 day working patterns
• To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.
• To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintain associated records.
• To assist with supervision, education and assessment of the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.
• To assist with supervision, education and co-ordination of generic therapy assistants, and junior therapy staff.
• Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

Diploma / degree in physiotherapy.

Current registration with Health Professions Council.

A levels or equivalent qualification

Good standard of general education including GCSE maths and English grade C and above.

Evidence of CPD including recent post graduate training relevant to clinical speciality.

Experience

Essential

Demonstrates comprehensive clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs in this speciality.

Significant experience of working in an a large complex organisation in a health care environment / acute hospital setting including acute hospital experience in MSK

Evidence of Team /service development

Supervision of students/assistants/Therapy Support Workers

A specialist knowledge across a range of physiotherapy practices, routine and non-routine, requiring expertise within the field of physiotherapy
