Department

The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is an international research organisation conducting policy-relevant environmental and sustainable development research around the world. SEI’s York Centre (SEI-Y) has a team of around 45 staff and is part of the Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York. SEI York has a broad research profile covering 5 main research areas: air quality and climate change; critical environmental governance; sustainable consumption and production; citizen science; and urban environments and human health. We aim to ensure that there is a supportive culture at all levels and across all staff groups and offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies and flexible working arrangements such as working from home up to 4 days a week.

Role

Supervised by the Centre’s Administration Coordinator, you will coordinate and support the day-to-day financial & purchasing operations of SEIY support. This includes providing day to day finance administrative service, responding to a wide range of day-to-day financial queries related to research, providing guidance and support on day-to-day financial processes and translating University finance policy into practice ensuring relevance to a research centre. Further responsibilities will include overseeing, processing and coordinating all Centre purchasing, supporting Project Leads and budget holders with financial reports and supporting research teams with financial arrangements for overseas events, workshops etc. In addition to this you will monitor Centre income, expenditure and payments across a range of accounts, and provide reports and tracking information to the SEI York Core Management Team.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Level 2 qualification including Maths and English. (Qualifications at this level include five GCSEs at grade A*-C/ grade 4-9. Please view the full list). We also welcome applicants with equivalent non-UK qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience of providing advice and complying with financial policies and procedures
  • A proactive approach and the ability to apply problem-solving skills.
  • Friendly, adaptable and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines - both independently and as part of a team.
