As a public health Specialist Nurse, you can make a real difference to children, families and communities. You will play a fundamental role in the development and delivery of the Healthy Child Programme across Newcastle. This includes assessing child development, in both home and community settings. Supporting the positive mental health of children, young people and families living in Newcastle maintaining a child-centred focus

Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity to train as a SCPHN Health visitor or School Nurse. You will be joining the 0-19 Service in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme across Newcastle, and we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for high calibre qualified nurses/midwives who can demonstrate that they want to be at the forefront of leading the public health agenda, early intervention, and a willingness to work collaboratively with partner agencies.

As an Apprentice you will be an adult learner, this requires you to be self-motivated, enthusiastic, resilient, and dedicated to the role. You will have a keen interest in public health and as a qualified SCPHN you will be leading the Healthy Child Programme.

You will have a passion for public health and improving outcomes for Children and families in Newcastle, collaborating with partner agencies to promote early intervention.

We are looking for nurses and midwives who can demonstrate an understanding of holistic assessment and the wider determinants of health.

You should have excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other agencies and as part of a skill-mixed team as well as able to work independently.

The higher apprenticeship programme runs for 18 months, (50 % in an academic setting and 50% in clinical practice) in collaboration with Northumbria University. Your training will include both Practice settings, where you will work in an integrated 0-19 Service with highly skilled Practice Supervisors and Assessors who will support you in practice and Northumbria University where you will be supported with the academic programme.

Application Process

Interviews will be held week commencing 24.4.23 with members of our Clinical and Educational Team and the Course Leaders form Northumbria University. Shortlisted applicants will be advised of the date and times of interview via e-mail.

You will be paid at Band 5/6 depending on current band.

Please note we cannot consider your application if you do not have current NMC registration and a full driving licence and access to a car.
