Research at Worcester

The University of Worcester sees research as fundamental to positive societal change, as articulated in the vision set out in our 2020 – 2025 Research and Knowledge Exchange strategy:

“We will be recognised for delivering excellent Research which extends the boundaries of human knowledge, but which also fundamentally improves people’s lives and makes the world in which we live a better place; and for high-quality Knowledge Exchange which meets the needs of our clients, partners and communities and adds value to their organisation.”

Our focus is on excellent and innovative research which has application in the real world. We have well established areas of research excellence in health and social care research (e.g., Association for Dementia Studies), with an increasing focus on community-based and technological solutions to the health and care crisis. This approach has underpinned the development of new areas of excellence in mental health research and trauma (e.g., The Mood Disorders Research Group). We also have two newly established research groups (Living Well with Long-Term Conditions; Arts and Health) designed to further support excellent research in these areas of importance.

Overview of the post

The University of Worcester is seeking an ambitious researcher to support an exciting new initiative to develop new collaborative research, evaluation and knowledge exchange activities between the University and the Co-Lab Digital Innovation Hub which is part of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Integrated Care System. The CO-LAB is designed to support digital technology projects and initiatives designed to improve the health and care of patients, families and staff.

The post-holder will undertake study design and planning, oversee consultation events, participant recruitment, data collection, data entry and analysis, conduct rapid reviews, write reports and contribute to publications. The role may also include liaison with and, where appropriate, supervision provided to, Research Assistant staff members.

This post-holder will work with colleagues across the College of Health and Science and the Co-Lab to support new research and evaluation projects aligned to the innovation activities within the Co-Lab. These applied projects will be coproduced with patients, carers, family members, health and social care staff, so we are looking for someone who brings experience of Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement and related activities, as well as mixed methods approaches to research.

There will be a range of researcher development available to the successful post holder, who will work under the supervision of a senior researcher. As we continue to develop this important area of work, there may also be opportunities for the post holder to supervise other research staff members.

From 1 August 2023, the salary range for this role will increase to £37,100 - £41,732, with the opportunity to progress to £45,585.

Informal queries in relation to this post are welcome, and should be directed to Professor Eleanor Bradley (College Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange, Health and Sciences; Professor of Health Psychology) via email at [email protected]
