Are you an inspirational leader with a passion for museums and the arts? If so, then we would like to hear from you.

This vital strategic role will drive the realisation of our vision for museums and the arts within Stoke-on-Trent.The postholder will provide leadership for the Council’s four museums and galleries and the recently developed Cultural Strategy, working collaboratively with colleagues and a range of strategic partners.

Stoke-on-Trent has a rich creative and industrial heritage which is represented in our museums. These hold collections of national and international significance, including our world-renowned collection of ceramics.

Our museums include: Etruria Industrial Museum (a scheduled monument); Gladstone Pottery Museum (the last complete working Victorian pottery in England and a national filming location); Ford Green Hall (a Seventeenth Century Yeomans residence designated as ‘Outstanding’ by Arts Council England); and our flagship site, The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, home to the celebrated Staffordshire Hoard and the acclaimed Spitfire Gallery. In addition, we are embarking on an exciting reinterpretation of our designated collections, with support of £5m Cultural Development Funding from Arts Council England.

Stoke-on-Trent is home to a number of other significant working museums and many high-profile producers of domestic and industrial ceramics. The role will make a significant contribution to identify and up-scale opportunities for generating regional, national and international resources to create a cultural centre for ceramics.

The post holder will capitalise on the growing national and international recognition of the city’s unique heritage, working with regional and national bodies such as Arts Council England to ensure excellence in service development, whilst ensuring that museums and the arts are inclusive and that the wider benefits relating to health, wellbeing and economic prosperity are optimised.
