Become a 1:1 Carer at Belmont Secondary School, part of Acorn Education and Care and start working towards yours.

  • £19,000 to £20,000 per annum dependent on experience
  • 37.5 hours per week; Term time only
  • Fixed Term; 12 months
  • Earn £1000 by referring a friend

Belmont Secondary is an independent, specialist day school for boys 11 to 18, catering for children with a wide range of needs. Our dedicated team, work together to ensure successful outcomes for pupils who often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life.

We pride ourselves in steering children in the right direction, nurturing aspiration to progress them both academically and socially to encourage them to take pride in their achievements. Socially, we build confidence in our students, so they are able to have a greater understanding of the wider community in which they live.

This opportunity is within commutable distance of Rawtenstall, Bury, Burnley and surrounding areas.

Job purpose

  • Under the reasonable direction of the Head of School, carry out the professional duties of a 1:1 support worker
  • To assist in the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for the student
  • To contribute to raising standards of student attainment
  • To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their full potential
  • To be aware of students with social, emotional and mental health needs and how to support them appropriately

Person Specification:

  • To be able to undertake the duties in the job description, applicants should possess the following knowledge and skills:
  • An ability to diffuse conflict
  • Empathy with young people facing barriers to their learning
  • The ability to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • The capability to remain calm under pressure
  • The ability to use own initiative and flexibility to cope with the unexpected
  • Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people
  • A good level of English and Maths (GCSE's ideally grade C / 4 and above)
  • Knowledge & understanding of the National Curriculum
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in working relationship with young pupils and in forming effective professional relationships with a wide range of contacts
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • The ability and willingness to work constructively as part of a team.
