Job Description
Thank you for your interest in applying for the Project Lead at Maths4Girls!
The Maths4Girls initiativewas launched in 2019 to encourage more girls to continue with maths beyond GCSEs with the endorsement of the Maths Anxiety Trust, the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP), The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) and the Department for Education (DfE).
Independent assessment of the Pilot Maths4Girls encounters showed material increases in girls’ confidence in attaining GCSE grades and their intention to study Maths post GCSEs. After a successful pilot and initial rollout, we now seek an exceptional candidate to work with us to lead the delivery of the outcomes of the project across the UK.
Our goal for 2023 is to build on the success of the pilot and to extend it so that every 11-14 girl meets several role models from different fields of work.
If this sounds like an opportunity that you would love, then please do apply to us by emailing Laura Cook.

Who we are
Most developed and many developing nations make it mandatory for 100% of secondary students to take both a Maths and a Science course every year through to graduation. They do so to improve the skills of their workforce, the competitive advantage of their nation, the productivity of their businesses and the life chances of the next generation.
In England, instead of 100% of girls taking maths in secondary school to graduation, the majority choose not to: In 2020 only 39% of girls took A levels post GCSEs and 29% took further Maths. 33% took Core Maths. The majority of girls are making irreversible life choices at 15 or 16. These decisions are made without the impact of these choices being clear to them and without having met sufficient role models in their classroom who, as practitioners can bring these subjects to life for the next generation. These choices foreclose future career options and are damaging to society and businesses which need people to have a foundation in Maths.
While we cannot mandate mandatory Maths in the English curriculum, we can work together with teachers to persuade girls to continue in Maths past GCSEs. Maths4Girls was set up by Mina Gerowin, one of the first women both in Hedge Funds, and previously in Mergers & Acquisitions at Lazard Freres, who has served as a multinational Board Director and Sherry Coutu CBE, a female serial entrepreneur who Chairs Founders4Schools, the leading transition to work charity in the UK. Seed funding was provided by 100 Women in Finance.
Just before the pandemic, Maths4Girls recruited several hundred volunteer female Role Models from every sector of corporates and startups. Their defining characteristic was that their current roles required them to use Maths in their daily work, ranging from STEM, Finance, IT digital, business and climate science. The Role Models explain how they use Maths at work. These inspirational women volunteer up to 8 times per year (one hour per session) of time with their organisation’s blessing to make themselves available in schools so that girls can more easily understand what they could become, were they to continue with Maths post GCSE.
M4Gs volunteers are trained and supported to visit classes where they talk about their work, the Maths they studied, and how they use it daily and the interesting and high-impact & high-earning careers that Maths opened up for them. Maths4Girls role models are made available to teachers at no cost via the Founders4Schools ed-tech platform.
We’d love to persuade all girls to continue in Maths – and to do that we need corporate sponsors, role models and schools. We need sponsors to donate funds as well as time for employees to be role models and schools to schedule sessions.
Your Role: We are engaging with senior stakeholders and are eager to develop and maintain our relationships, you will take the lead on project delivery and supporting additional fundraising for the Maths4Girls (M4G) initiative over the years.
