emap’s Amber division in East Croydon consists of 13 exciting B2B brands and 18 events annually including the UK and Irish Quality Food Awards, DFNI Cruise Conference and Environmental Packaging Summit to name just a few. The events portfolio is made up of conferences, awards, summits, and roundtables taking place in both the UK and Internationally, both in a physical and virtual capacity.
Overall Purpose of the Role:
Amber division consists of several event orientated brands including Motor Trader, DFNI-Frontier (Duty Free News International), Packaging News, Independent Retail News and Irish Medical Times. The division also includes the industry leading Quality Food Awards.
Our physical conferences form an essential place for the industry to network, share best practice and challenge them to do better. As a conference producer working under the direction of the Acting Head of Events, you will perform an essential role within a fast-paced, stimulating, and dynamic environment, across the motor retail, packaging and retail brands.
This is a new role for the division, and you will be responsible for identifying areas for growth and development in our existing conferences. You will also be responsible for identifying and producing brand new industry leading, commercially viable repeat conferences and validating new topic ideas. The scale and structure of these may vary depending on the opportunities that arise and demands of our target market.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct in depth research in the feasibility of repeat events in our target markets, working with the brand team to leverage the existing industry position for market research
- Maximise existing events to ensure they meet the ‘need to know’ requirement to guarantee attendance and performance, identifying areas of growth and development YoY
- Develop session formats appropriate to demands of the delegate audience
- Project manage all aspects of event content and ensure the production of high quality, industry leading commercially viable events to deadline with the support of the event operations team
- Work closely with, influence and get buy-in from the relevant in-house editorial and sales teams to ensure the production of relevant content and to leverage existing contacts and relationships in the industry.
- Write comprehensive topic briefing documents which contain essential information about the key industry issues, market, and event to brief all internal stakeholders (SPEX, delegate sales, marketing, logistics and editorial).
- Invite and confirm high-level speakers that the industry wants to hear from, building an experienced diverse line up providing thought leadership for the target market
- Work with the event marketer to create a robust, clearly defined marketing, data and content brief that enables you to produce a powerful marketing, content and data plan that delivers the agreed outcome.
- Create promotionally led marketing copy for emails, website and brochures that is in the tone and language of the market, and which generates enquiries and bookings
- Analyse historic events and attendees to determine appropriate pricing structures
- Provide briefs to prospective speakers to generate on topic content against the session format.
- Conduct briefing calls and sessions in the event lead up and onsite
- Work with the Acting Head of Events to identify new business areas and expansion of the Amber events portfolio for 2024
Skills and Experience:
- Exceptional research skills and prior knowledge of research models
- Highly analytical with the ability to interpret data to shape ideas
- Sharp copywriting skills and an understanding of event/conference marketing in a B2B setting
- Evidence of strong topic generation and market development ability
- Demonstrable experience, with a clear understanding of the commercial business practices that underpin conferences.
- Experience of using Microsoft Office and social media at an intermediate level or above.
- Strong commercial awareness and a clear comprehension of profit and loss/basic business principles
- Clear understanding and delivery of core conference KPIs, ability to analyse performance and communicate to the wider team
- Strong presentation skills, ability to prepare event concept slides and pitch event proposals
