Summer Harvest Assistant

Location
The UK Barley and Oilseed Rape breeding station is located at Rothwell near Caistor, Market
Rasen, which is involved in the selection, testing and seed production of cereal and pulse vari- eties for the UK and European markets. As the area is not served well by public transport your own transport would be essential.
Duties
Activities are diverse throughout the season but your main activities will be to participate in the harvest and sowing including :
- Hand harvesting of selected plants
- Threshing plants and cleaning seeds with adapted machines
- Assistance when combining plots in the fields
- Harvesting and transplanting plants in the glasshouse
- Weighing and sampling seed for analysis and sowing
Due to the varied nature of these activities, it will involve working both outside and indoors within the onsite warehouse and greenhouses which at times may be physically demanding.
All PPE and safety equipment such as safety boots will be provided.
Dates and Times
There are a number of temporary positions available from 6 weeks to 3 months within the period July to September. The minimum age for these positions will be 17 years plus, this is due to health and safety regulations.
Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4:30pm with a lunch break. Over- time may be available in the evenings and weekends when needed by staff.
Rates of pay will be dependent on experience with the minimum wage assured.
