Smart Manufacturing Solutions are recruiting for a Quality Technician, based in Seaham.
Main aims of the role:
- To be an active member of the quality function.
- To support in current initiatives, projects and quality driven tasks.
- To inspect both existing and new product to ensure conformance to specification.
- Help to develop a proactive quality culture within the company by coaching/mentoring staff, running quality driven projects and supporting all staff at all levels as and when required. Raise staff awareness.
- Provide a professional resource to customer contacts and suppliers alike representing the company in a professional manner at all times.
- Communicating with staff at all levels. Discussions, meetings, presentations as needed.
Immediate Duties:
- Inspection of all standard production parts with quality team prior to part dispatch.
- Identification and communication of any problems / defective parts found
- Daily quality checks on product as required, full dimensional reports, sample batching, random checks
- Identify faults within products and processes and identify methods to remedy – Problem Solving
- Provide technical support to production in order for them to produce parts to the correct standards.
- Proactively assist in shop floor quality problems and customer complaints.
- Scrap reporting, inspection and analysis of data to identify trends. Support/Coach/Mentor staff as required to achieve a more quality minded environment
- Work towards and develop quality targets, departmental activities and KPIs.
- Assist in development of standard methods of working. Quality Instruction and Standard Ops.
- 5S Audits monthly of shop floor designated areas.
Working towards:
- Liaise with customer representative on quality related issues
- Continuous improvement activities including data collection, analysis and problem solving techniques.
- Communicate quality instructions or briefs to operators and supervisory staff
- Supporting future activities aimed at achieving Health and Safety and Environmental standards. Introduction, system maintenance, auditing
- Investigating customer NCRs and returns, identify faults, communicate with staff
- Support Calibration process for all onsite equipment. Set up and run jigs and fixtures calibration system.
- Internal auditing of company systems against ISO 9001 procedures (training provided)
- Attend 8am daily production meeting. Discuss any quality requests, report any quality alerts
- Assist in route cause analysis, countermeasures and actions within NCR meetings
- High level CAD skill aimed at design and introduction of new templates, information books etc.
Skills Required (Draw up Skills Matrix):
- Able to competently use measuring equipment,
- Interpretation of engineering drawings and customer standards.
- Identify faults within products and processes and identify methods to remedy
- Good problem solving skills.
- Confident decision maker and proactive in approach to continuous improvement.
- Good data analysis skills.
- Good communication skills (written and oral)
- Able to prioritise own schedule of work and show good organization skills.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to interact with staff at all levels.
- Good level of computer literacy – Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
£23,000 - £26,000 pa depending on skills and experience.
Potential for future progression to Engineer.
