Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity to join the team behind Total War, Alien: Isolation and Halo Wars 2 as a Core Gameplay Designer, focusing on systems and abilities on a new project being built in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). This will be based at our studio in Horsham, in the heart of West Sussex.

The successful candidate will be highly effective at prototyping and realising new player abilities and world interactions, to create compelling gameplay that delivers on the game's themes and goals.

Flexible working at Creative Assembly includes hybrid, fully remote within country of employment for eligible roles, and in-studio. We recognise that there is no one-size-fits-all approach and empower our teams to define the working patterns which work best for them, which may mean different things for different teams and roles and at different times.

This role is Hybrid and has an expectation of 1 day every 2 weeks, in our Horsham studio. We will consider remote working in exceptional circumstances. Further details can be discussed during the recruitment process.

Key Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis you will:
  • Envision and implement a compelling and emotive sandbox for the player
  • Prototype and prove out new mechanics
  • Work with a cross-discipline team, driving and communicating features, enabling others
  • Develop systems that enrich the setting and world.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience

Essential
  • Experience prototyping gameplay systems and player abilities
  • Experience with environmental interactions and mechanics
  • Strong understanding and experience working with the “3Cs” (character, camera, control)
  • UE4/5 experience
  • Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.
Desirable
  • One or more shipped titles in a gameplay design role
  • A passion for the player experience, and empathy with the audience
  • A passion for overlapping systems in a complex and immersive game environment.
