Job Title: Mobile Operative
Location: East Midlands
Salary: £26,687 per annum raising to £27,927 per annum once competent
£3,454 shift allowance per annum
Contract Type: Permanent
Are you looking to start a career in the rail industry or looking for a career change?
DB Cargo UK is on an ambitious journey to become Europe’s leading rail logistics provider with a long-term plan to shift traffic from roads, protect our climate and grow the economy. To achieve this, we are looking for Mobile Operatives to join us as part of our groundstaff team. As a Mobile Operative you’ll be on the go each day by preparing our trains so they’re safe to go on their journey for our customers.
Rail is one of the safest and most eco-friendly means of transport with one single freight train able to carry enough materials to build 30 houses. Our services replace the equivalent of over 22 million truck movements every year, saving 7 million tonnes of carbon emissions! As a Mobile Operative you’ll be directly contributing to reducing carbon emissions and shifting traffic from roads to the rail.
If you would like to know more about the role and DB Cargo UK, please do not hesitate to contact the recruitment team on
[email protected] and we can send out the recruitment pack for this vacancy.
The role of Mobile Operative is hands on and you’ll be involved in the following
Train preparation; shunting, marshalling
Train dispatch
Problem solving
Railway yard management
Ensuring the safe operations of trains
You will directly contribute to our service delivery and have the opportunity to influence the service we offer to our customers.
The role will cover a varied number of customer sites, DB Cargo UK sites and infrastructure worksites as required.
You will be required to work outside in all weather conditions come rain or shine.
Your standard hours of work will be 35 hours per week. Flexibility is a must as Freight never stops, so naturally this role will involve working shift patterns which includes unsociable hours.
If you’re looking for a career change or a new challenge this role could be the perfect fit for you!
Previous rail experience would be a bonus, however, this is not essential as we offer full training to ensure that you’d be ready to take on the role by yourself and help us in our journey to shift freight from the road to the rail.
To be successful in the Mobile operative role you’ll need…
To be highly motivated and committed to your work
Have a flexible approach to shift working
Experience of teamwork and lone working
Work to the instruction of the person in charge
