HMGCC provide forensic expertise for UK National Security and deliver essential support by pioneering novel and inventive forensic solutions.
As a Senior Forensic Scientist, you’ll have the opportunity to drive priority projects, integrate new forensic technologies, and deliver essential services for the UK and its interests. There will also be opportunities to devise and lead programmes of work that will draw on experience of forensic science and exploitation, using state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, in a rapidly developing department.
You’ll enjoy working closely with a small team to meet customer’s needs, provide innovative solutions and deliver training. Applicants should have experience in DNA interpretations, understand forensic principles, and be able to demonstrate an eye for innovation.
About You
Technical skills
Essential requirements:
- DNA Profile interpretation experience – examine and assess Electropherogram’s (EPGs).
- Forensic experience – e.g. either field or laboratory-based experience of forensic science practices and approaches.
- Aptitude for problem solving and ability to devise innovative solutions.
- Ability to communicate via a range of mediums – e.g. writing reports, reviews, summaries and verbal presentations to audiences.
Desirable requirements:
To strengthen your application, it would be beneficial if you have one or more of the following (but these are not essential):
- DNA reporting experience, including experience of mixture profiles.
- Knowledge of broader forensic science practices e.g. light sourcing, photography, fingerprints.
- Experience of creating and delivering presentations and training packages to a range of audiences.

Putting your skills to use
As part of our team you will:
- Lead on programmes of work in support of UK National Security.
- Utilise your DNA interpretation experience to safeguard UK personnel and staff.
- Devise and develop innovative solutions to support our customers.
- Identify and integrate new technologies that enhance our capabilities.
- Serve as a mentor/role model, playing an active part in the upskilling and development of less experienced staff.
- Act as a subject matter expert to ensure best practice is maintained.

The Process
You’ll complete an application form which will be used to identify applicants with the relevant technical and interpersonal skills. If successful at this stage, you will be invited to interview.
Interviews are held in two rounds. Your first will be a technical and HR interview. If you are successful at this stage, you will be invited back for an Occupational Psychologist interview.
